Städtische Werke Magdeburg

The “Städtische Werke Magdeburg” (Magdeburg’s urban utility works) emerged on the 19th May 1993. Since late August 2012 the company formally operates as Städtische Werke Magdeburg GmbH &Co. KG.

The company represents a major economic force in the city of Magdeburg and with approximately 680 employees plus 29 apprentices, is one of the largest employers in Magdeburg. The SWM Magdeburg is a municipal corporation. Its main shareholder is the state capital of Magdeburg. The remaining shares are held by EAV Beteiligungs-GmbH and Städtische Werke MagdeburgBeteiligungs-GmbH.

As a multifaceted corporation SWM Magdeburg ensures a safe and reliable supply with electricity, gas, water, heating, as well as waste disposal and energy-related services for the cities inhabitants. Customers have the option to obtain electricity and natural gas from renewable energy sources. Since 2007 SWM Magdeburg started to offer its products Germany-wide.

In addition to the core activities of an energy supply company, SWM Magdeburg is also involved in areas such as waste incineration, metering services and telecommunications.
